Between 2004 and 2008, Iraq went through a significant phase of reconstruction following the devastation caused by years of war, which severely compromised the country’s stability and infrastructure. In this context, energy needs emerged as a priority, as only by ensuring continuous access to electricity and the efficiency of basic infrastructure could the country begin the process of recovery and stabilization.
Bertoli, an Italian company with a solid experience in the energy sector, played a leading role in providing gensets, spare parts, and advanced technological solutions for Iraq’s energy infrastructure. This was not just a technical intervention; our commitment also included training local personnel, an essential element to ensure the long-term sustainability of the projects undertaken.
Through an integrated approach, we helped enhance pumping stations, dams, and water infrastructure, making them operational again. This intervention, part of a broader framework of international reconstruction projects, demonstrated the ability of Italian companies to act effectively in complex contexts, offering not only technological expertise but also the willingness to transfer knowledge and skills to local communities.

Supplying Gensets and Energy Infrastructure in Iraq: Italian Excellence

The choice of Bertoli as a partner in the reconstruction of Iraq’s energy system was not a coincidence. We are recognized for the quality of our gensets, designed to operate in harsh environmental conditions and built to ensure essential energy continuity in emergency situations. In a country like Iraq, where much of the infrastructure had been damaged or destroyed and the power grid was extremely unstable, the presence of reliable gensets was a key factor in restoring services and ensuring the safety of the population.
The supply involved various types of plants tailored to the specific needs of the sites where they were installed. For example, pumping stations were able to resume full operation, ensuring the availability of water for agriculture, industry, and civil use. Similarly, dams and hydropower facilities were restored to operation, contributing to the gradual normalization of living conditions in the country. The excellence of Italian-made products was evident in the attention to detail, the robustness of materials, and the ability to adapt to the challenging Iraqi context.

Overcoming Logistical and Security Challenges in a Complex Context

Iraq between 2004 and 2008 presented significant logistical and security challenges. Political instability, the lack of an efficient transport network, areas still subject to conflict, and the urgent need to restore basic services represented considerable obstacles. We were able to address these issues with a flexible approach, demonstrating the capacity to operate in extreme conditions.
The transportation of gensets and the components necessary for their operation required meticulous planning, identifying safe routes, and collaborating with local and international actors.
Every delivery, every installation, and every technical intervention was meticulously planned, taking into account the evolving situation on the ground. This adaptability allowed the company to successfully complete its missions, showing how technical and organizational skills can combine to solve concrete and urgent problems.

Transferring Skills: A Lasting Impact

One of the most significant aspects of the intervention in Iraq was the training program dedicated to local personnel. We didn’t just deliver the gensets: the goal was to ensure that once the installation and commissioning phases were completed, the energy infrastructure could be managed independently by the Iraqis themselves. Training played a central role, enabling local operators to acquire the skills necessary to carry out maintenance, repair, and daily management of the plants.
This transfer of know-how had strategic long-term value. Ensuring that Iraqi technicians could take care of the electrical plants meant making the country less dependent on external support, fostering the development of a qualified local professional class, and ultimately contributing to the country’s energy stability. This knowledge, rooted in the local community, allowed the plants to remain efficient even after Bertoli Srl’s intervention was completed, ensuring that the investment made had a lasting positive effect.

Bertoli and the Reconstruction of Iraq: Gensets for Energy Stabilization

The project carried out in Iraq was not just a commercial operation involving machinery supply; it represented a fundamental step in the reconstruction of a country severely impacted by years of conflict. Energy stability is not merely a technical goal, but the foundation for the rebirth of the economy, the return to normal conditions, and the resumption of productive and social activities.
Having access to reliable electricity means ensuring the operation of hospitals, schools, transport infrastructure, communication centers, and essential services for the population. In a context marked by continuous challenges, Bertoli’s intervention brought hope, demonstrating how technology and social responsibility can go hand in hand.
Finally, it should not be forgotten that the experience in Iraq highlighted the ability of Italian companies to stand out internationally, operate in complex situations, and provide robust and sustainable solutions. This case represents a concrete example of how Italian excellence in the energy sector can positively impact the future of regions in the process of reconstruction. We didn’t just provide equipment, we offered an integrated approach where training, technical assistance, and an understanding of the local socio-economic context played a decisive role.
